Notes: Carey moved to Nashville from Chicago a little over a year ago, primarily to stay within the radar range of his label, Dualtone, says manager Gary Taylor. Though Ott's music tends toward the rock, he's spent the past few weeks opening for synth-pop legend Thomas Dolby in the Northeast, and is booked up with a ton of Chicagoland gigs this summer, leading up to the release of his debut album, Lucid Dream, in August. His songs have been featured on ''Grey's Anatomy'' and we'd be shocked if more music supervisors don't mine Lucid Dream for its treasure trove of perfect, soundtrack-ready songs.

5/9/06 - Carey Ott’s list of music you should hear...Carey has compiled a list of 16 of his all-time favorite albums at Amazon.com.

5/2/06 - It’s time to hit the road! Carey, Satchel and Kai headed out yesterday [Monday morning] to play some music, make some friends, sell some T’s along with advance copies of the long awaited debut album “Lucid Dream.” If you happen to be in the area for any of these dates we’d love to have you attend.

If you’re coming out to one of these gigs and if you’re so inclined, please print off the electronic poster [click the picture on the right], bring it with and you’ll receive $3 off the $15 selling price of the cd. 3/22/06 - “I Wouldn’t Do That To You” has been released as the first single from the soon to be released “Lucid Dream” album. This week (3/27/06) “I Wouldn’t Do That To You” was added to Music Choice’s adult alternative playlist along with the likes of Oasis and James Blunt.

With the popular “Am I Just One” (the song that was featured on the January 22, 2006 episode of Grey’s Anatomy) still in this chart at #40 after three month’s of elevated chart positions, Carey’s music is indeed making an impression with music programmers and fans alike.

3/14/06 - Carey has been finding some time in his crazed schedule to do some co-writing and producing. Recently, Indianapolis singer/songwriter Brian Deer and him holed up in Ott's Nashville apartment and co-wrote two songs and another by Carey himself. He produced, engineered and recorded it all and the results were rewarding. Carey's new song, "The War Within," is an etheral beauty with a mystical blend of atmospheric hooks.

Carey has been woodshedding his band in a trailer park in the outskirts of Nashville preparing for SXSW and tour dates in general. Last week's gig at 12th and Porter/March 9, was well attended by friends, fans and industry. Carey revealed his new line-up and is playing select dates as a six piece with addition of Virginia native and guitarist Devin Malone. Also playing for the first time was his new drummer, Nate Stalfa. Everyone in the room was treated to a great set of Ott's melodic, inspired songs along with an added dynamic that powered his trademark hooks. This week it's SXSW and Carey has been selected as one of the conference's buzz bands by iTunes. Carey and Satchel fly out to Austin to perform at a special accoustic showcase for American Songwriter magazine at the Molotov Lounge along with Amos Lee, Glen Philips [Toad the Wet Sprocket] and several other impressive artists. The rest of the band will be following Carey to Austin in Dualtone's tour bus and arrive just in time for Devin to join Carey and Satchel for this showcase. Added to this mix is that mvyradio, the coolest internet station in the nation out of Martha's Vineyard, will record Carey's set along with an indepth interview afterwards. Carey plays at 3pm.

That same day when the clock strikes midnight, fans of Carey's will be treated to a full band set at Dualtones showcase at Momo's on sixth ave. We'll be shooting video as usual and if you happen to be in the crowd please feel free to take pictures and submit them to us. If they're cool, we'll pop them into the website.

Friday at SXSW will see Carey, Satchel and the Dualtone crew hanging out at a "by invitation only" party presented by U.N.C.L.E. and Pirate between 4-6pm at 4th and Nueces/Red Bull House. There will be a ton of college music programmers in attendence.

After SXSW it's back to Nashville where more rehearsal, more brainstorming and just a lot of "more" will be on the agenda. March 24 and 25 will see Carey and his band heading out for a weekend of concerts in Indianapolis [house concert] and Bloomington [University of Indiana/Buskirk Chumley Theatre].

April 2006 will mark the date of Carey's first single off "Lucid Dream". It's "I Wouldn't Do That To You". Dualtone has brought on board an explosive team specifically to accelerate Carey's profile in media and radio along with everything else that will result as a case study of the domino effect. Hold on to your shorts because with help from our fan base along with these specialists, this song will impact at radio and set the table for the July release of "Lucid Dream."

April will be busy playing a few select Nashville dates along with more rehearsals.

May comes in with a bang! In an unusual but hip match up Carey embarks on a tour with legendary electronica pioneer Thomas Dolby, whose song "She Blinded me with Science" was a huge International hit and woke up thousands of musicians and fans alike to a new genre of music. Dolby hasn't toured in 15 years and judging from the initial reaction this will also become a media event. He is associated with several of the elite of modern rock and Roll history. David Bowie, Peter Gabriel and Pink Floyd to name just a few. The shows kick off May 4 in NY at the legendary Joe's Pub.

Tour dates etc. will be listed within 10 days.

Carey Ott's Lucid Dream Limited Edition EP on emusic.com!

Carey’s 3 1/2 song limited edition EP was the #1 download for January 24th, 2006 on emusic.com, which is the #1 Independent Digital Download service. There’s room for a little celebration here considering the company on the charts. After the initial surge to # 1 Carey is holding at # 20 on this weeks chart www.emusic.com/charts.html. 

The review of the EP is also stellar, although they did review “Am I Just One” as “Am I The One”. Oh well, mistakes happen and that sure won’t dampen our spirits hanging round the campfire listening to Carey. So if you are so inclined go to the site at www.emusic.com and support Carey by joining in and assisting in keeping Carey’s profile in the top 10. If you are a member you’d have to pay the price. If you aren’t a member and you join you can receive up to 50 downloads.

Grey’s Anatomy helped this surge as the exposure that “Am I Just One” received as an integral part of the scene was flipping huge. The song was, for the most part, the actual dialogue. Almost two minutes. Awesome!!!
