Hi Folks-
Been busy finishing this new record, HUMAN HEART. But, I had to comment right quick on the Fox News / Glenn Beck festival that went on today at the Lincoln Memorial in D.C. They called it the "Restoring Honor" rally or something preposterous like that and had the unmitigated gall to hold it on the same date, in the same exact location that MLK gave his "I Have A Dream" speech in 1963!!
Anybody else hear about this ludicrousness?!
Glenn Beck (Fox News) and Sarah Palin have insulted Martin Luther King, Jr. and his great legacy today.
I've heard
better speeches at weddings. It certainly had nothing to do with civil rights.
Or "Honor," for that matter. Actually it just made me feel sorta
embarrassed to be Caucasian. And did Palin sound like anyone who should
be speaking in public? The word "wow" just kept popping into my head
as I watched it happening.
Beck often uses buzzwords like "Faith," "Hope," and "Charity" during his daily Fox News schlockfest. But if you actually listen to what he is saying week after week, words like
"Fear," "Confusion," and "Madman" more often come to mind. I think he
and Palin are completely out of their minds. Theocracy anyone? In his "speech" today, Glenn
mentioned God more than friggin' Deuteronomy.
"America today begins to turn back to God. For too long, this country has wandered in darkness." -Glenn Beck from today's "Restoring Honor" rally.
"We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit ...we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of liberal excess during the past ... [few] years." -The Speeches of Adolph Hitler, 1922-1939, Vol. 1 (London, Oxford University Press, 1942), pp. 871-872.
Using typical, Neo-Con-Faux News-Logic, it naturally follows then, that Glenn Beck is an aspiring Fascist dictator.
Watch Jon Stewart's take on the event here:

Oh, and speaking of "I have a scheme," is anyone allowed to say anything
meaningful on Fox News if it doesn't support Rupert Murdoch's (He's
Austrailian) pro-business agenda? Just watched a documentary called, "Outfoxed."
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2IwIRNM5noYDo we honestly think Rupert Murdoch really cares about
Americans? I guess only so much as they continue to support his MASSIVE
global media empire News Corp. Wake up folks. You don't get your truth from TV,
do you? In 3-4 minute segments, in between Goldline commercials?
http://www.ritholtz.com/blog/2010/07/glenn-beck-goldline/Count how many times they break for commercials in any given Glenn Beck show. Where's all that money going, Glenn? To help unemployed Americans? Don't make me guffaw.
There's so much better stuff I can do with my time
I can volunteer, read a book (recently read Amusing Ourselves To Death by Neil Postman & The Invention of Air by Steven Johnson & Working by Studs Terkel)
I can grow a garden, plant an avocado tree, cook a yam burrito, tell
somebody I love them, or just smile & love the people around me. I'm gonna try to do these types of things more often.
We do need unity. We do need revolution. Or at least a REAWAKENING. But we can't expect people with blatant corporate agendas to show us how to wake up. Do they REALLY know who they are, let alone who WE are? Can they accurately represent us? Who are THEY really? ...with their corporate affiliations, political platforms & 7-figure salaries? (Yeah you, Newt.)
I don't need a Tea Party to start a revolution. The revolution starts with me. Right here, right now. Here in my community.
I don't need a ballot to vote. I vote every day with my hard-earned dollar. How I spend my money ultimately determines what causes, attitudes, beliefs, etc. I support (by proxy) every day. Every word I say. Every second of every day MATTERS! What are my intentions? My motivations? What do I stand for? What kind of legacy do I wish to leave?
As I delve deeper into who I really am, I begin to sense more and more that "forever" and "now" are the same thing.
mad as hell / it's up to me
