Hello From Kensington Market...

Hi folks. It’s Sunday, June 27th. I’m writing you from the lovely city of Toronto. Things are going great! The studio we’re working in ROCKS, and is located in a wonderful neighborhood called Kensington Market. This place has VIBE FOR DAYS :-)
The people watching here is amazing! I sat and drank coffee for an hour at this little corner “hut” for about an hour on Friday. I was right in the heart of Kensington Market and it seemed to be one of its busiest spots. The people walking, skating, riding by were all so diverse. Punk rock kids with tats & piercings, Dreadlocked Rastifarians, entire Asian families, yuppie moms pushing strollers…It’s quite a city. So much good food and yummy culture to experience.

Hello Everyone!

I have been so busy I haven't had a chance to say HEY for awhile.  The floods have hit Nashville (along with much of Middle Tennessee) and it has been pretty crazy around here.  Lori and I have been lucky.  No flood damage to us.  A few friends got hit, but are holding up just fine.  Sad to see all these good people lose so much in an instant.  Not just belongings and homes, but more than 30 LIVES have been lost in this flood as well.

We'll all pull through this TOGETHER.  That is the message here.  This is Nashville.

It's been really inspiring thus far, to see all the people step up and help out their friends and families and neighbors in need.  In times like these you really have to take stock of what you have, and what is really important to you.  Prioritize.  Be grateful.  Help others anyway you can.  Disaster or no disaster.

Because it's the right thing to do.

Greetings y'all!

I'm off to Toronto tomorrow for Canada's premier music conference, Canadian Music Week.  I'm contributing as a panelist (Music for Film and Television), and will be performing Friday and Saturday at Library Bar (inside Royal York Hotel).  Fun and exciting stuff to be sure!

So what else is new...I'm 'neck deep' (as Gary would say) in mixing my Human Heart record.  Along with writing as often as I can.  Wrote with Rose Falcon today and she is fabulous.  Wrote with my friends Dylan Altman and Marla Cannon yesterday and that was a blast.  Such talent here in Nashville.  And then when they also happen to be wonderful people???  Icing :-)

Below is a quote from "Fear, Greed and X-Rays" Andrew Weil's blog today on Huffington Post. www.huffingtonpost.com/andrew-weil-md/fear-greed-and-x-rays_b_270828.html "Medicine has become a pig trough here," he said. "We took a wrong turn when doctors stopped being doctors and became businessmen." An interesting quote I just read on Huff Post and thought...hmmm, you could replace the word 'medicine' with 'government' and continue: "GOVERNMENT has become a pig trough here," he said. "We took a wrong turn when PUBLIC SERVANTS stopped being PUBLIC SERVANTS and became businessmen." Then, I considered this one... "RADIO has become a pig trough here," he said. "We took a wrong turn when PROGRAMMERS stopped being PROGRAMMERS and became businessmen." This is fun AND depressing!! :-) Fill in the blanks and create your own example of capitalism run amok in the good, ol' US of A! The point is...business isn't inherently bad...but GREED is. Peace! Hmmm.

I was just scolded by MySpace on behalf of "copyright owner" for putting my song, "Shelf Life" up on my profile.  It said something about violating copyright law, et cetera.  Even made me take a "class" on copyright law, so they could reinstate my "privileges" as a MySpacer.  I wrote the f-ing song and am being scolded for sharing it.  Of course, I sold off half of the rights to it to a label.  I'm aware of this.  But it ruffles my artistic feathers, to say the least when I can't share a song I wrote...with PERSPECTIVE FANS!  Helooo??!  It's sorta like if you had a child, then a divorce, gave up half, then got a cease and desist letter from your ex's attorney, just for putting the kid's pic up on Flickr!!!  Kinda infuriating, actually.

Hmmm.

FW: Dear friends, As you may know, right-wing talk show hosts have been bringing race-based fear mongering into the mainstream, but FOX's Glenn Beck just took it to another level. On Tuesday, Beck said: "This president has exposed himself as a guy over and over and over again who has a deep-seated hatred for white people... this guy is, I believe, a racist." It's part of a larger argument Beck has been making: that President Obama wants to serve the needs of Black communities at White people's expense. This kind of talk stirs up fear, hate, and it can lead to violence. I've joined ColorOfChange.org's effort to stop Glenn Beck. ColorOfChange is already putting calls into Beck's advertisers, asking them if they want to be associated with this kind of racist hate and fear-mongering.

Hey Folks! Please forward this to all your friends. Thanks! Carey Big Brothers Big Sisters is experiencing a crisis! We are in desperate need of volunteers for both our Community and Site Based programs. Currently we have less than 50 volunteers waiting to be matched (with over 300 children) and very few interviews scheduled. It’s vital that we bring in more volunteers and we know that current volunteers can be some of our most effective recruiters just by helping to spread the word about the program. A few easy ways that you can help - Ø Take a minute and talk with your friends, family, co-workers, and neighbors about BBBS. Often times hearing the positive experiences of current Bigs is what prompts others to sign up for the program. Ø Invite us to host an informational Lunch & Learn at your place of employment.
